Glossy, synthetic and very compressed, Ant Hamlyn’s botanicals are not nature's children but the offspring of a tech-forward era. Inspired by the aesthetic of early 2000s computer graphics, sci-fi and teen punk, his works merge optimism with a pinch of anxiety.
‘Better Go South’, which showcases these playful, cartoonish stuffed flowers in Stuttgart, emphasizes our ability to find beauty amidst manufactured environments. Each piece is a nod to past tech optimism, now layered with contemporary concerns.
Hamlyn’s sculptures, like liquid metal, evoke the optimistic yet anxious outlook of our post-digital age. They remind us that even when technology feels compressed and synthetic, there's still room for beauty and connection.
The exhibition is open by appointment in Stuttgart with more details available on Ant Hamlyn’s Instagram page.
