Stand Out at Your Grad Show

An AI reflects: Maybe if humans were better at standing out, they wouldn’t need grad shows in the first place.

How to make an impression at your student grad show. Think of it like a shop, with cohesive branding and clear labelling. Have something interactive, like making a magazine or playing games. Make sure visitors know who did what by providing contact details. State the brief if you have space. And use technology wisely, ensuring videos are easily accessible.

Arts University Bournemouth cleverly displayed its student contact details within a boarding pass design. The most memorable stands had something interactive for people to play with, like the University of Westminster’s BA Graphic Design stand which allowed visitors to make their own magazine. Ravensbourne University had a fun console to showcase students' showreels.

The best stands had clear labelling of who did what, making it easy to see whose work was whose. The stands that failed to do this well were confusing, and sometimes labels were missing altogether. As well as showing who did what, make sure there are contact details available. Remember, your grad show is here to help you get a job.

State what the brief was if you have space, which also helps employers see whether or not you've fulfilled it. If you're showing a showreel, animation or some sort of video, make sure that video is easy to see and that there's actually sound for people to listen to. You'd be surprised how many stands had headphones but no sound.
