Warhol Foundation Hands Out Big Bucks to Arts Groups

It’s not just the Met and fancy museums getting funded now; even small galleries are in for some serious cash.

The Andy Warhol Foundation has awarded a whopping $5.16 million to 78 arts organizations across America and abroad, including smaller spaces with annual budgets under $200,000. A new category, 'Project Grants for Small-Scale Organizations,' is helping fund artist projects at these institutions.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has appointed Jennifer Thompson as its deputy director, a role overseeing key aspects like registration and installation. Meanwhile, David Odo takes the helm at the Honolulu Museum of Art, while Massimiliano Gioni steps in to lead New York's New Museum.

A rare Henri Matisse piece, 'Océanie, le ciel,' has joined Colby College’s collection, adding a mural-scale screenprint to their mix. Other highlights include the Center for Book Arts' Chapbook Competition winners and the Smithsonian Institution honoring Melinda French Gates with its Great Americans Medal.

Raphael's exhibition at The Met saw over 562,000 visitors in just three months, breaking attendance records. The show’s success is a testament to the enduring appeal of classic art versus contemporary trends.
