New York artist Noore Yazigi has made it her mission to bring the elegance of Arabic calligraphy into tattoos. Her designs range from sacred texts like the Quran to poetic pieces by Palestinian writer Refaat Alareer.
One of her most popular motifs is the word 'Palestine' in bold script, which adorns her own wrist and has become a sought-after craft among clients looking not just for art but also for personal significance. For some, it’s a reminder of their roots; for others, an ode to home.
‘I grew up drawing,’ Yazigi told Hyperallergic. ‘My style was a lot more cartoonish, but I always incorporated Arabic script.’ The transition from paper to skin is a natural one for her, as both mediums require precision and skill in connecting each line perfectly.
The form that Palestine takes on her arm has become the artist's signature piece, resonating with those who want to honour their heritage in a unique way. Whether it’s Bilad al-Sham or any other region, the sacred law of connection remains at the heart of Yazigi's work, ensuring every tattoo tells a story and connects its wearer to something meaningful.
