If you’ve been grumbling about the quality of content on Netflix for years, it might be time to reconsider. The streaming giant has embraced generative AI in creating over 300 titles this year, from production to post-production.
The American Experiment, a documentary series about the American Revolution, even featured 17 minutes of AI-altered footage. According to Netflix, these sequences were produced twice as fast and at half the cost, allowing for more affordable and expansive content.
While Netflix portrays this technology as a tool for artists rather than a replacement, the focus on cost-saving during their earnings call hints differently. Other platforms like Apple TV, Paramount+ and Disney+ offer robust alternatives with critically acclaimed series that may not rely so heavily on AI.
The cancellation of The Boroughs and reality shows featuring AI-generated voices from deceased actors highlight Netflix's shifting priorities. With so much exceptional content available elsewhere, it’s becoming increasingly easy to break the streaming habit without missing out on quality entertainment.
