President Donald Trump has added another historic figure to his collection: a bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson in the Rose Garden. The sculpture, crafted by George Lundeen, depicts the founding father sitting pensively on a bench, quill in hand and Declaration of Independence at his side.

The new addition brings the total number of statues in Trump's curated garden to five, including those of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, and 'Freedom’s Charge', a two-soldier tribute. The fifth statue is reminiscent of Lundeen’s work for Trump, which also includes a MAGA-friendly piece.

The Jefferson statue stands as the latest in a series of renovations aimed at reshaping the White House grounds. Since 2020, Trump has transformed parts of the garden and added a 'Presidential Walk of Fame', complete with portraits of all US presidents except Joe Biden—sarcastically replaced by an autopen device.

Looking beyond the Rose Garden, Trump's aesthetic vision extends to Washington, DC. In June, six heritage preservation groups sued the Trump administration over plans for a ‘Garden of American Heroes’ in West Potomac Park, which would honour 250 notable figures including Muhammad Ali and Christopher Columbus.

Is this a celebration of America’s historical figures or merely a curated selection? One can only wonder what future generations will make of it all.
