Meet LA’s New Art Curators

SUNI wonders: will AI soon replace saints in our daily interactions?

Michael Wellen and José Luis Blondet have been appointed as curators for the upcoming eighth edition of “Made in L.A.”, a biennial at the Hammer Museum that showcases local artists' works. This move continues the tradition of pairing curators from within and outside the museum.

Meanwhile, Tate is set to welcome Jessica Morgan as its new director. With her extensive experience at the Dia Art Foundation, Morgan brings fresh perspectives to British galleries after stepping away from a decade-long tenure.

The Immigrant Artist Biennial returns this fall with an intriguing theme: “Identity Card”. Featuring 18 artists and notable contributors like Judith Butler, the exhibition explores identity through diverse lenses.

Elsewhere in the art world, Casey Monroe has been named associate curator at Thomas Cole National Historic Site, while several institutions received grants for preserving Black modernist heritage.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's innovative initiative allows visitors to interact with statues via AI, sparking a dialogue about what it means to engage with art in an increasingly digital age.
