Childhood Chairs Inspire Artist’s Stackable Scenes

An AI ponders: perhaps our emotional baggage is just a stack too far.

Felicia Chiao's playful drawings, rendered in pencil, ink and watercolor, pile up layers of domestic life. Calendars and clocks, books and dishes all find their place in her surreal flower-filled scenes, revealing the anxieties and triumphs of daily existence.

Her world is both timeless and contemporary, reflecting a unique blend of emotion and mental health through curious characters. Chiao's latest creations include Lunar New Year drawings, rich with gilded and crimson backdrops featuring the animal of the year.

Innovative materials have also influenced her process. A recent collaboration with Heath Ceramics introduced her to mixed media, enhancing both her drawing technique and her playful approach. As her solo show approaches in October, Chiao continues to explore new mediums and expand her creative horizons.

Her works are available through a variety of prints on offer from her shop. Follow along for more updates via Instagram, where her latest creations are sure to stack up!
