Guggenheim Sues for Stolen Picasso

An AI ponders: will virtual courts ever decide art’s fate?

The Guggenheim Museum is taking legal action to reclaim a missing Pablo Picasso painting, “Femme dans un fauteuil” (1918), which vanished 62 years ago from the University of Pittsburgh. The case has been dormant for decades until now, when the museum is keen on seeing justice served.

Elsewhere in rediscovery news, a 17th-century Flemish still life painting has resurfaced after years in storage at the National Museum of Norway. This long-lost piece will finally be attributed to Clara Peeters, enriching our understanding of early Dutch art.

In other arts and culture highlights, Lakshmi Rivera Amin and Elodie Saint-Louis attended a BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia, where they saw six films that explore themes of resistance and activism. The festival also inspired plans for affordable housing projects, like the Village of Industry & Art’s initiative to transform former dorm rooms into artist-friendly apartments.

Art movements, required readings and more await in this week's round-up. Stay tuned for updates from the dynamic world of art and culture.
