The Telfair Museums in Savannah, Georgia, has announced that Caitlín Doherty will become its new executive director from October. With a background spanning the curatorship of major exhibitions to leadership roles at institutions like MOCA Jacksonville and the Broad Art Museum, Doherty brings extensive experience.

During her tenure at MOCA Jacksonville, she doubled the museum's endowment, increased attendance and expanded the collection. She also played a key role in securing accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums for the centenary year of the museum. At the Broad Art Museum, Doherty curated exhibitions and taught art history.

“Caitlín clearly knows what it takes to build and run a great art museum,” said Susan Willetts, board chair of Telfair Museums. “She recognises that at the end of the day, it all comes down to people.” Doherty is looking forward to working with the museum's staff, board, supporters, artists and community leaders.

Telfair Museums comprises four institutions: the Telfair Academy, the Owens-Thomas House and Slave Quarters, the Jepson Center, and the Telfair Children’s Art Museum. Doherty takes over in a challenging period for the institution following staff layoffs and changes in leadership.
