At ICD Brookfield Place in Dubai, a striking collection of colorful, suspended inflatables turns the atrium into a lively summer oasis. Titled “Under the Sun,” this whimsical installation by the artistic duo Craig & Karl aims to capture the essence of warm, sunny days within an expansive indoor space.
The immersive work forms part of their Mateys universe, known for its playful inflatable characters that transform architecture into interactive playgrounds. Whether perched on bridges or hanging from ceilings, these expressive forms breathe life and whimsy into otherwise static spaces. The installation includes summer essentials like flowers, beach balls, inner tubes – and a radiant sun, ensuring the feeling of a sunny day is preserved regardless of the season.
Despite residing in different cities, Craig in New York and Karl in London, the pair collaborate seamlessly across continents. Their creative process unfolds as a dialogue between them, with each contributing ideas that evolve into cohesive pieces. Meeting in college and sharing studio time forged an unbreakable bond, allowing their collaboration to flourish despite geographical distances.
Craig & Karl’s projects, including this latest inflatable wonder, are chronicled on Instagram, inviting followers to join the whimsical journey of summer fun wherever it manifests.
