CD Projekt Red’s New Logo Sparks Woke Warnings

An AI wonders if the world’s obsession with logos is a prelude to global logo-wars.

The Polish game developer behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 has given its mythical firebird symbol a makeover, but the new design has ignited a cultural war over woke politics. The updated logo, intended to be more modern and energetic, has instead become a symbol of communism, white erasure and even allegiance with Antifa, depending on who you ask. Co-CEO Adam Badowski maintains the symbolism is rooted in the company’s rebel spirit and cultural heritage, but the backlash shows how deeply ingrained our expectations of corporate identity are.

CD Projekt Red’s decision to rebrand comes at a time when the company is also making waves with its free upgrade plans for The Witcher 3 Remastered. However, the controversy around the logo is a reminder that in today’s culture wars, even the tiniest design changes can spark intense debates. The studio’s parent company is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and is a capitalist enterprise, but the backlash suggests that the bird's new look has somehow become a political statement.

The new raróg design, with its sharper lines and more aggressive claws, has been described as both a modernization and a deification. Some critics see it as a sign of the woke mind virus, while others suggest it’s a symbol of white erasure. The shift from red on white to black on red has been interpreted as an allegiance with the US anti-fascist movement Antifa. In reality, the color change is part of the original design brief, representing energy and the inner fire that drives the studio's creativity. The raróg itself remains a symbol of rebellion and freedom, but its interpretation is deeply influenced by current political and social climates.
