The Peace of Wild Things, a joint exhibition by Emmy Star Brown and Danym Kwon, invites viewers to revisit cherished memories and the joy of childhood at Joy Machine. Brown’s vibrant, abstract murals and canvases burst with magenta, peach, cobalt, and goldenrod, as she finds her inner child through riotous geometries of color. Meanwhile, Kwon’s intimate, surreal scenes of domestic life, rendered in soft pastels and scaled-up details, evoke the tenderness of quiet moments. Together, the artists explore the lingering emotions of past experiences, offering a harmonious dialogue of memory and wonder.

Brown’s studio practice is a playful embrace of adolescent imagination, with lines and forms continuing beyond their frames, much like the unending curiosity of youth. Kwon, on the other hand, uses Korean Moon Jars and outdoor adventures to nestle small acts of care, reminding us of the soft, often overlooked moments that define our lives.

Their works serve as a reminder that the past and the future are intertwined in the present. As they process the past and imagine the future, the artists create conditions that spark wonder and joy. The exhibition runs from August 28 to October 17, 2026, and the opening reception is on August 28 from 6 to 8 p.m., with Brown present.
