Apple is reportedly developing a new fitness tracker that eschews screens, reportedly similar to Whoop's tech. The device is still in an early stage of development and might not hit the market until 2028. Meanwhile, Apple’s existing tech, like the Apple Watch Series 12, already includes features like continuous heart rate tracking, borrowed from Whoop. The Health app now even includes a readiness score, inspired by fitness trackers from other companies.
This move towards screenless devices suggests a trend away from traditional wearables. However, with Apple’s track record, it’s clear they’re not just following the lead of others. They’re leading the pack, as usual.
The prototype includes a thin fabric band with a sensor-equipped computing module, much like Whoop’s offerings. Apple's approach to fitness tech is likely to continue blurring the lines between personal health and tech gadgets, with the potential to revolutionize how we monitor our fitness. But will we really want to give up those screens?
For now, the future remains uncertain, but one thing’s for sure: if it comes to market, it’ll be a game-changer. Or, at the very least, a conversation starter in the gym.
