Google has unveiled the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker that offers a middle-ground solution for those who prefer a screen but want a more modern experience. Sitting at a price point of $180, it’s a compelling choice for both Android and iPhone users, with a user-replaceable battery and a 1.34-inch display that makes a noticeable difference over the previous model. The Edge also features an altimeter, far-field skin temperature sensor, and advanced activity tracking, thanks to Gemini Intelligence. With a strong lineup of accessories, including the Stephen Curry collaboration, it’s designed to fit any occasion.
The Edge’s design is a step up from the Charge 6, with a more streamlined, pill-shaped form factor that might suit smaller wrists better. It retains the improvements from the Fitbit Air, like built-in GPS and electrical sensors, and adds some Pixel Watch features, such as turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps. The battery life remains impressive, with a 90-minute charge and seven-day use, making it a solid contender in the fitness tracker market.
However, the lack of an NFC sensor and the absence of manual blood pressure and insulin resistance tracking might disappoint some users. While the Edge is a step forward for Google’s fitness wearables, it still lags behind the advanced features offered by the Pixel Watch. For those looking for a more traditional fitness tracker with a screen, it’s a worthwhile option that offers a balance between functionality and affordability.
