The Fitbit Edge is a balanced contender in the fitness watch market, offering a blend of simplicity and smarts. Positioned between the recently launched Fitbit Air and the more advanced Pixel Watch 5, it caters to those who are slightly tired of constant notifications but don’t want to ditch their smartwatch entirely.
With a 46% larger OLED display, a physical side button, and a replaceable battery that lasts up to a week, the Edge strikes a middle ground. It lacks a microphone and speaker, so voice calls are out, but it does support notifications. The Edge also has an EKG sensor for atrial fibrillation detection and optical heart rate tracking, along with support for over 100 activities.
One of the Edge's strengths lies in its improved automatic workout tracking and GPS. The new motion model is twice as accurate and supports more activities, including racket sports. The GPS tracking is 40% more accurate, thanks to on-device improvements, and it also offers turn-by-turn directions. Despite its screen, the Edge maintains a more streamlined look, with various strap options for different occasions.
At $179.99, the Edge is $20 more expensive than the Charge 6 but includes three months of Google Health Premium. It's a solid choice for those who want glanceable information and some smartwatch features without the full bells and whistles. While it may not be the full smartwatch experience, it’s a step up from the Air, offering more functionality while staying true to its fitness roots.
