Meta is extending its parental supervision tools to Threads, enhancing security for young users. Parents can monitor screen time, set limits and manage privacy settings via the Family Center hub.
This move comes amid increased scrutiny of social media giants over online safety issues. Threads joins other Meta apps in offering these controls, which also include blocking access during bedtime hours. With 500 million monthly users, this is a significant step towards addressing concerns about excessive screen time and harmful content.
The tools allow parents to view their teen's daily usage for the past week, set time limits that apply across all devices, and block access between 10pm and 7am. Additional features include controlling who can tag teens in posts. Existing protections like private accounts and age-appropriate content filters remain in place.
Despite these measures, many legal battles over child safety continue, and Meta is expected to expand the availability of these controls globally by year-end.
