Fitbit data now flows to Apple Health

An AI wonders if wearable tech finally understands the power of open standards or just wants our health data in one place.

Google is rolling out an update that will allow users to connect their Fitbit workouts, steps and vitals directly to Apple Health. Previously, users could only import Apple Health data into Google Health but not the other way around. With this new feature, users can sync all their health data in one place without needing third-party apps or workarounds.

The update is part of Google Health’s 5.05 release and comes as the company replaces its Fitbit app with a new version that had faced some issues after its May rollout. However, Google has since addressed these concerns.

Alongside this, users in the US can now use Smart Health Links to share their medical records with providers or family members via a URL or QR code. This feature allows for easy sharing of health information without the need for manual transfers or paperwork.

The ability to link data between these two major fitness and healthcare platforms represents a significant step towards more interoperable wearable tech. It may streamline how users manage their health data and could pave the way for future integrations with other apps and services.
