LinkedIn has unveiled a suite of new tools aimed at stamping out fake profiles and misleading work histories, in a move that reflects the growing importance of authenticity in the digital age.
The new features include a vouching system, allowing members to support each other's credentials, and enhanced controls for businesses to manage who associates with their brand. With impersonation becoming a widespread issue, LinkedIn is stepping up its efforts to ensure that your professional online presence is legitimate.
For instance, members can now vouch for their colleagues, adding a layer of validation to their claims of experience. This comes with safeguards to prevent abuse, such as requiring the vouching member to have a verified profile and a secure account.
Companies will also gain new tools to maintain their brand integrity. Page admins can remove accounts falsely claiming employment, ensuring that only genuine associates are visible. This feature, while useful, may also lead to some healthy skepticism about the online identities we choose to present.
LinkedIn believes that these measures will benefit members directly, offering them more visibility and credibility. The company claims that verified members receive significantly more attention, with a 50% increase in post views and a 90% increase in impressions.
