San Francisco-based Industrial Next is aiming to transform factory automation, allowing production lines to switch tasks in minutes, not weeks. The startup's self-contained robotic stations use proprietary AI to connect vision, task context, and motion, enabling rapid retooling without traditional programming.
The company has partnered with BMW Group Technology Office to evaluate its AI-powered dexterous manipulation for manufacturing. Founded by Lukas Pankau and Allen Pan, both previously at Tesla, the idea for Industrial Next emerged from their frustration with outdated factory equipment.
Their approach involves using high-fidelity simulations to teach robots complex tasks, reducing the need for extensive physical retooling. This technology is already in use for assembling one of the world's most popular smartphones, handling delicate tasks with precision. Pankau envisions a future where robots build full cars end-to-end, without human intervention.
