Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly developing an AI clone to replace him in meetings, according to reports from the Financial Times. This virtual doppelgänger, trained on his mannerisms and voice, aims to keep employees connected with the founder through interactions.
The experiment might not end there. If successful, Meta could allow creators to make their own AI avatars, potentially transforming how we interact online. In 2024, Meta demonstrated an AI version of a creator's persona for Instagram and enabled users to create chatbots, though it recently blocked teens from using this feature.
Zuckerberg’s involvement in training the AI avatar is significant; he reportedly spends five to ten hours a week on other AI projects. This development follows another report, which suggested Zuckerberg was creating an AI agent to help with tasks.
As digital avatars become more common, they could redefine how we interface with technology and each other. But will this AI twin truly enhance productivity or just make virtual meetings even less personal?
