LinkedIn: AI Not to Blame for Hiring Dip

But your job might change more than you think in the next decade.

According to LinkedIn’s Blake Lawit, a decline in hiring of around 20% since 2022 has been observed on the platform. However, he argues that this decrease is not due to artificial intelligence (AI) but rather soaring interest rates.

The data from over a billion LinkedIn members and their interconnected jobs and skills show no significant impact of AI in industries typically affected by automation such as customer support or marketing. Lawit suggests that the decline is more related to economic factors.

Moreover, there’s been no notable difference in hiring for college-aged individuals compared to those further along in their careers, according to LinkedIn's analysis. But here's the twist: by 2030, the skills required for an average job are expected to have changed by a whopping 70%, driven largely by AI advancements.

Lawit’s message is clear: while you might keep your current job title, the tasks and knowledge needed could transform dramatically. Prepare to adapt or risk becoming obsolete.
