Sierra, the artificial intelligence (AI) startup founded by former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor, has purchased Fragment, a French company backed by Y Combinator that specializes in integrating AI into business workflows.
This marks Sierra’s third acquisition within a matter of months and cements its position as a major player in the AI customer service space. Olivier Moindrot and Guillaume Genthial, co-founders of Fragment, will be joining Sierra’s team to bolster their efforts in France.
In a blog post, Taylor and his co-founder Clay Bavor stated that Moindrot and Genthial will bring valuable expertise to Sierra's agent development initiatives. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but PitchBook estimates that Fragment has raised around $2 million through its seed round.
Taylor, now the chairman of OpenAI’s board, co-founded Sierra alongside Bavor after leaving Salesforce in early 2023. The company claims notable customers such as Casper, Clear, and Brex and boasts a valuation of over $10 billion from investors including Sequoia and Benchmark.
Sierra's rapid growth through acquisitions suggests ambitions beyond just improving customer service. However, the true impact on human interaction remains to be seen – will AI make our lives easier or simply replace us in the workplace?
