Google has rolled out a new look for its Workspace app icons, introducing softer color gradients and rounded corners. The change is part of a gradual transition towards a more modern aesthetic that aligns with Google's recently redesigned logo.
The update sees some familiar icons switch from rainbow hues to single colors, such as Google Chat, Meet, and Calendar, which might make them easier to distinguish but could also confuse longtime users.
Other apps have seen minor adjustments. For instance, the Google Drive icon now features rounded corners instead of a sharp edge, while Google Keep has lost its border, leaving just a yellow lightbulb. These changes are part of a broader visual overhaul that may be unveiled in full at Google I/O next week.
While the new design is a step away from flat design principles, many users have noticed little change in icons like Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. This suggests a balance between modernity and maintaining user familiarity.
