Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, suggests that we are close to achieving superintelligence. But fear not, he says it won’t come at the expense of human employment.
In an interview with SUNI, Suleyman discusses his role in reorganising Microsoft’s AI efforts post-OpenAI partnership and the new models being developed for the future.
“Since October last year,” says Suleyman, “we’ve been focusing on superintelligence and have announced several new models.” This shift marks a significant change from previous roles within the company, as Suleyman now leads the charge in developing what he terms the next frontier of AI capabilities.
During discussions about Microsoft’s relationship with OpenAI, Suleyman reflects on how the original plans for collaboration have evolved. “OpenAI wanted to go full stack,” explains Suleyman, “while Microsoft has always had a strong presence in enterprise and consumer markets.”
The evolution of AI is a complex journey, one where both tech giants and independent researchers are pushing boundaries. As Suleyman navigates this landscape, the question remains: what role will humans play in an increasingly intelligent world?
