Google has quietly unleashed an offline-first dictation app called 'Google AI Edge Eloquent' on iOS. Designed to capture natural speech without the filler words, this free tool aims to rival other apps like Wispr Flow and SuperWhisper.
The app leverages Gemma-based ASR models for accurate transcription, filtering out verbal tics before polishing your text. Users can choose from various formatting options to refine their output or opt for local-only processing if privacy is a concern. Google also allows users to import keywords from Gmail and add personal custom words.
For those concerned about data usage, the app offers cloud mode off-switches, ensuring that only necessary information travels over your network. The history feature lets you revisit previous sessions and gauge your speaking speed and word count in real time.
While currently iOS-exclusive, Google hints at an Android version with seamless integration as a default keyboard for system-wide transcription access. This move could signal the company’s intent to improve transcription capabilities across its platforms if this experiment proves successful.
