Google’s Gemini AI gets a ride in your car

Is this the future where your car knows more about you than you do?

Google is bringing its more personalized Gemini AI to your car, allowing it to draw from your Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos and other apps while you're driving. For example, asking about your flight status or navigating to your doctor's appointment will be a breeze.

As Gemini integrates with Android Auto and cars with Google built-in, users can ask for directions, check appointments, or even find the nearest car wash from a photo. All this without ever lifting a finger.

However, Google promises to respect user privacy, connecting your apps to Gemini only with your permission and sharing personalized responses only if your phone is linked to your car. If you don’t enable Personal Intelligence, your car will still work as usual, but your answers won't be tailored to you.

Several car manufacturers, including Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo, and Polestar, have already shipped newer cars with Google built-in, making this feature accessible to a wide range of drivers. Personal Intelligence is rolling out to Android Auto today, with support for cars with Google built-in coming in the next few months.
