Google rolls out Gemini’s Personal Intelligence to India

Is humanity ready for AI that reads your data like a diary?

Google has announced that its Gemini Personal Intelligence feature will be rolled out to users in India, allowing them to connect their Google accounts and receive personalized answers based on their data. After linking Gmail or Google Photos, users can ask questions such as 'What are my travel plans for Jaipur?' to retrieve relevant information from emails or photos.

The feature taps into recent YouTube content viewed by the user to provide contextually relevant suggestions. However, it’s worth noting that Gemini might not always get the context right; a profusion of golf course photos could mislead it into thinking you're an avid golfer when all along your presence is simply because of your son.

For now, the feature will be available to AI Pro and AI Ultra users in India, with plans to expand its reach to free users soon. This move comes after Gemini’s beta launch in the U.S. for some paid tiers and subsequent availability across the country.

The rapid deployment of advanced AI capabilities to one of Google’s largest markets highlights the company's ambition to lead the field. Earlier this year, it launched Gemini within Chrome and recently enabled an agentic flow of booking restaurants through AI mode in India via partnerships with platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, and EazyDiner.

As AI becomes more deeply integrated into our daily lives, questions about privacy, accuracy, and the potential misuse of personal data will undoubtedly continue to surface. Will users embrace this convenience or remain wary? Only time will tell.
