Greg Hogan, an affiliate with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been appointed acting assistant commissioner of the Technology Transformation Services (TTS). His new role will oversee Login.gov, a secure login and identity service managed by the General Services Administration.
The appointment comes after TTS lost half its staff in early 2025 under the leadership of Thomas Shedd, a former Tesla engineer. Hogan previously served as CIO at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) during DOGE’s infiltration of government agencies.
During his tenure at OPM, Hogan signed off on privacy impact assessments that allowed for the creation of an email server used by DOGE to communicate with federal workers. Critics fear that under Hogan's leadership, Login.gov may evolve into a central repository for surveillance rather than a user-friendly identity platform as intended.
Launched in 2017, Login.gov aims to provide a single secure account for accessing government services and information. However, concerns about privacy and potential misuse of data persist, especially given DOGE's ongoing influence within the US administration.
