A security researcher has uncovered a staggering data breach involving nearly 90,000 screenshots of private messages and images from a European celebrity. These were allegedly collected using stalkerware—a tool designed to secretly monitor someone's digital life.
The trove includes intimate photos, business conversations, payment details, and even confidential chats with high-profile individuals. The data spans mid-2024 to mid-2025 and was stored in a cloud repository that was publicly accessible, raising serious security concerns.
Vangelis Stykas, a security researcher who analysed the Cocospy app—known for its stealthy surveillance capabilities—notes that such apps can track every aspect of someone's life. 'Having access to someone’s phone means you have unobstructed access to all of his or her life,' he warns.
The issue is not limited to this case; stalkerware has a long history of breaching victims' privacy, exposing sensitive information and leading to potential harassment and identity theft. As digital technology continues to be weaponised by abusers, the stakes are ever higher for personal data protection.
