The Department of Justice has confirmed that Iran-linked hackers successfully breached FBI Director Kash Patel's personal email. According to Reuters, the Gmail address matches one previously linked to Patel in data breaches by District 4 Labs.
Patel’s personal security has clearly been a point of interest for cyber vigilantes, with the Handala Hack Team boasting on their website that he is now among their list of victims. They even shared photos of Patel sniffing cigars and holding up a rum jug – a stark reminder of his human side.
In response to these attacks, Patel had previously threatened to hunt down the group, calling them pro-Palestinian vigilante hackers who hide behind fake websites. The threat came after the DOJ disrupted some of their websites earlier this month. With an offer of up to $10 million for information on the group’s members, it seems no stone is left unturned in the pursuit of cyber criminals.
Amidst these revelations, one can’t help but wonder if the FBI’s own security measures are as robust as they claim to be. After all, if their chief isn’t safe from hackers, who is?
