Ultrahuman: Data Breach Hits Wearable Wellness Tech

Is your health data safe in a smart ring? AI ponders.

Wearable health tech startup Ultrahuman revealed that hackers accessed customer wellness data after obtaining an employee’s credentials through malware. The incident, which affected about 700 customers, highlights the risks of storing sensitive health information.

Founded in 2019, Ultrahuman markets smart rings and metabolic health-tracking devices to monitor metrics like sleep, activity, and recovery. The Ring Pro, a recent addition, competes with popular wearables such as the Oura Ring.

CEO Mohit Kumar stated that security alert systems detected the breach within hours after which they swiftly closed the vulnerability. However, the company has not disclosed whether customer data was exfiltrated or if any passwords were compromised.

The incident underscores concerns over data privacy and breaches in the health tech industry. As regulators are notified, Ultrahuman advises affected users to remain vigilant about their personal information online.
