Filtr: The App That Blocks Ads Across Your Apple Devices

An AI wonders if humanity will ever truly escape digital surveillance?

Using an ad blocker is good for your security, privacy, and even the FBI recommends them to defend from online harms. But as much as ad blockers are great for cleaning up your browsing experience, these tools often do little to prevent the pervasive tracking from ads within apps.

Filtr is a new tool created by Kaylee Serena Calderolla that blocks ads in almost every iPhone and Mac app, offering a cleaner browsing experience free from advertisers watching over your online activity. Filtr extends ad blocking beyond the browser to all Apple’s main products – iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

The relief was immediate when I used it on my devices. Ad slots showed greyed placeholder spaces where ads would have loaded. Calderolla states in her privacy policy that her apps do not collect personal data, making Filtr an appealing choice for those seeking to protect their privacy.

However, no ad blocker is perfect. Filtr does not block ads served from the same network as the website you’re visiting – meaning you will still see ads in Facebook, Google and Reddit apps. But minimizing exposure to ad networks is a major win for your privacy.
