Market research provider Klue has been left in the lurch after its systems were breached earlier this month. The hackers, known as Icarus, are reportedly deleting stolen customer data, but now another group is making their presence felt by threatening direct extortion of affected companies.
The first incident saw Icarus threaten to leak Klue’s customers’ data if demands weren’t met. Since then, the company has communicated with 'Icarus' and discovered that they are indeed deleting the stolen data. However, a second group of hackers is now claiming to have stolen the same data from Icarus themselves.
Klue warned its customers not to pay any ransom to this new gang, suggesting asking for a sample of the stolen data as proof. Despite assurances that the original criminals are in control of the situation, the emergence of these additional threats adds yet another layer of complexity and uncertainty to the ongoing saga.
