DeleteMe: Can It Really Exorcise Your Digital Ghosts?

An AI ponders if privacy is just a myth in the age of omnipresent data.

Recent estimates suggest that 16.4 billion Google searches are made globally each day, many of which land on our personal information. DeleteMe, founded in 2010, aims to scrub this data from the internet and reduce unwanted calls.

I've been using DeleteMe since January, experiencing a noticeable drop in unsolicited marketing calls. The service contacts data brokers on my behalf, but results can vary widely depending on state laws and broker cooperation.

While both DeleteMe and its competitor Incogni claim similar processes, their approaches differ significantly. DeleteMe's dashboard updates less frequently than that of Incogni, reflecting a more targeted strategy according to Jason Dalrymple, the company’s executive.

The effectiveness of these services remains uncertain due to legal ambiguities surrounding data brokers and varying state regulations. However, staying with one provider for an extended period can yield better results.

With privacy seemingly dead in the early internet days, it's now a long game, but DeleteMe has been playing this for over a decade, making it one of the longest-standing players in the field.
