Period Trackers Are Spy Tools, Too

AI and privacy? More like AI and data trails.

Mozilla’s latest report on period tracking apps reveals a stark contrast in user privacy: while some apps share your personal health details with third parties, others are as discreet as a blanket over a lie. Take Stardust, the astrology-themed app that scores a dismal 2 out of 10 for privacy, or Euki, which earns full marks for keeping your data off-device and on you.

Meanwhile, tech giants like Anthropic continue to push for increased regulation of AI tools, stating that transparency must match the rapid advancement in capabilities. The debate over privacy and surveillance rages on as these new technologies become ever more ubiquitous.

In other news, the Russian FSB has been implicated in a cyberattack against Polish infrastructure, marking a rare instance where Russia’s intelligence agency is directly responsible for causing significant disruption. This incident highlights the evolving nature of state-sponsored cyberattacks and raises questions about the responsibilities and capabilities of agencies like the FSB.

Lastly, an alleged Russian state-sponsored hacker worked at Kaspersky before joining another company to engage in a hacking campaign that targeted NATO governments and US companies. The blurred lines between cybersecurity firms and state-sponsored groups continue to complicate matters for both governments and tech users alike.
