Google is reportedly gearing up to launch a new item tracker called the ‘Pixel Tag’, potentially taking on Apple's popular AirTag. The device, described as an item tracker with a speaker that uses Google’s Find Hub network, could be part of the company’s upcoming hardware event scheduled for August 12th.

The Pixel Tag’s Slovenian store listing indicates its capabilities: it helps users locate lost items quickly and reliably using secure technology. The gadget is designed to attach discreetly to important possessions like keys or wallets, allowing owners to track them via smartphone with ease. A loudspeaker enables easy nearby searches.

Earlier listings for the Pixel 11 lineup mentioned a Google Pixel Tag but ultimately pointed out that no such tracker currently exists. With Google already teasing new smartphones and other devices for the event, the addition of a tracking device might seem like a logical step in expanding user convenience.

The company has been increasingly focused on enhancing its ecosystem with interlinked services, as evidenced by Find Hub. However, whether the Pixel Tag will stand out against AirTag remains to be seen. Only time—and possibly some clever marketing—will tell if this new addition will catch the public’s fancy.
