OpenAI’s latest desktop app for macOS, ChatGPT, introduces a feature called Computer History. This tool learns from your actions by tracking clicks and keystrokes, suggesting automations and even picking up where you left off.

The feature is opt-in but allows you to exclude certain apps and delete entries for finer control. Ari Weinstein, Product and Engineering manager at OpenAI, stated that content in incognito or private browser tabs will be ignored by Computer History.

During a demo video, Dominik Kundel from the Developer Experiences team showed how the app can recall recent documents, check if they were shared via Slack, and provide summaries of your morning activities. It’s reminiscent of Windows Recall but without the creepy screenshots, or so they claim.

Despite the opt-in nature, some users might find this level of tracking a bit unsettling. Is AI really watching us? Or is it just being overly nosy?
