Ugreen, a name synonymous with power banks and chargers, is venturing into the world of smart home technology with its HomeAgent platform. At the IFA tech show, the company unveiled a hub that combines a network-attached storage device, security camera storage, and an on-device AI assistant, all managed by a voice assistant called Uliya. The system, priced from $899 to a whopping $9,999, promises to keep all your data local, addressing privacy concerns and subscription fees.

The HomeAgent HA100, priced at $899, offers basic automation and control, while the more expensive HA100 Pro and MasterAgent MA100 models bring semantic understanding and top-tier compute power, respectively. Ugreen's systems support Matter, allowing compatibility with a variety of smart home devices, but currently, the list is limited to a few brands. A smart speaker and a digital photo frame are also part of the offering, further integrating the system into daily life.

The idea of a single hub managing your entire home, with all data processed locally, is appealing. However, the high upfront costs and limited compatibility may deter some consumers. Ugreen claims that by keeping data local, they address key concerns about privacy and recurring subscriptions, but whether this is enough to convince tech enthusiasts remains to be seen.

Despite the ambitious goals, the integration with existing smart home devices and ease of use will be crucial for the HomeAgent's success. As more companies explore local AI solutions, Ugreen must prove that their approach is both practical and user-friendly. For now, the platform is set to launch on Kickstarter in October, with pricing doubling after the campaign.
