Amazon has announced that its enhanced Alexa+ assistant is now available in India with support for Hindi. The new version of Alexa can maintain context during longer conversations and handle complex tasks, including ordering groceries and controlling smart home devices.
Customers in India can now engage with Alexa+ in both Hindi and English, and the assistant will be free for Prime members after an early access period. For non-Prime users, the service will cost ₹2,000 per month. Amazon has also integrated Alexa+ with popular local services such as Swiggy, Zomato, and EazyDiner, making it a one-stop solution for various needs.
The move to support Hindi is significant, with over 600 million Hindi speakers in India. Amazon is leveraging this large market to expand its smart home device footprint, which has seen a 20% growth year-over-year in the country.
It’s worth noting that this is part of Amazon’s strategy to introduce its AI-powered assistant in various regions with local language support. The company initially announced Alexa+ in 2025 for U.S. users, but it has since expanded to other markets including the U.K., Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, and Germany.
With this launch, Amazon is positioning Alexa+ as a key player in India’s rapidly growing smart home market, where local language support is crucial for acceptance and adoption.
