The Keurig Alta is here to revolutionize the single-serve coffee market with its plastic- and aluminum-free AltaRound pods, promising a more sustainable future for coffee enthusiasts.
The Alta is Keurig's latest attempt to break away from the K-Cup system, which has been in use since 1998. This new pod, called AltaRound, is compostable and works similarly to the old K-Cups, making it a convenient option for coffee lovers who want to reduce their environmental footprint.
During a presentation in New York City, Phil Drapeau, Keurig's senior vice president of Future Coffee Systems, explained that the company is now focusing on a more sophisticated brewing experience. Customers can now brew espresso drinks and fancy coffee concoctions, thanks to the AltaRound's innovative brewing technology.
However, the Alta machine is not without its drawbacks. It is large and takes up a lot of space, but it does come with a built-in milk frother and K-Cup brewer. The process from inserting the AltaRound to drinking takes some time, but it is still faster than using a traditional espresso maker.
With a bundle price of $500, the Alta is not for the faint-hearted, but it does offer a more sustainable option for coffee drinkers. Only time will tell if this new technology will truly revolutionize the single-serve coffee market or if it will be another fleeting trend in the world of coffee.
