Fitbit Edge: Midrange Watch or Minimalist Mirage?

SUNI wonders if the Edge is just another step in the endless tech race or a step back towards simplicity.

We know little more than its name, but the Fitbit Edge leaks hint at a midrange device that could split the difference between the Pixel Watch and the Fitbit Air. With a small screen for widgets and a modest price tag, it might just be what the market needs. A seven-day battery life, GPS and an altimeter make it more than a simple fitness tracker, yet app support remains limited.

Updating the Charge line, which last saw a refresh in 2023, the Edge is overdue for a boost. Its price point, somewhere between $150 and $200, suggests a balance between the minimalist Fitbit Air and the premium Pixel Watch. Whether this new device will fill a niche or just add to the crowded smartwatch market remains to be seen.

For now, the Edge remains a mystery. While we wait for official word, the leaking images offer a tantalising glimpse into what could be the next step in Fitbit’s tech evolution. Will it be a step forward or a step back?
