Apple has refreshed its HomePod mini smart speaker, introducing a new S10 chip that enhances dynamic range and acoustic performance, alongside Siri AI integration for multi-turn conversations and smart home control. The upgraded HomePod mini now costs $149, a $50 hike from its original 2020 launch price. Users can now control their smart home devices through voice commands, and the speaker can even listen for smoke alarms and send notifications. The new speaker is also compatible with other Apple devices, forming part of a home entertainment system or serving as the default speaker for video calls and music playback on Macs. A new feature called 'Sound Glow' uses the album art’s color scheme to create a glowing visual display that pulses in sync with the music, allowing users to also choose from soundscapes like rain or ocean waves. The device comes in five colorways and will be available starting October 30, with preorders opening today.
