Today's news that IONNA charging network is partnering with Circle K to bring its 'Rechargery' experience to over 350 locations in the US marks an exciting step forward for EV owners. Starting with 85 existing Circle K charging sites, the first Rechargeries will power up electric vehicles by the end of this year, with plans for expansion in 2027.
IONNA, founded by eight major OEMs including BMW and Mercedes-Benz, aims to deploy 30,000 high-speed chargers across the US by 2030. Currently, there are 108 IONNA locations operational with over 1,000 charging plugs.
Partnering with Circle K will not only accelerate the build-out of fast-charging infrastructure but also offer a more complete retail experience, including bathrooms and food options. IONNA's COO, Aaron Wolff, expressed his gratitude towards Circle K for recognizing their industry leadership.
Their partnership is part of a broader strategy to prepare for the future where drivers increasingly rely on electric vehicles. Håkon Stiksrud, Circle K’s vice president of global emobility, highlighted that this collaboration would enable quick scaling of high-power charging at trusted locations, combining fast, reliable charging with a great food and beverage experience.
Despite lengthy permitting delays slowing down the expansion of fast-charging infrastructure, IONNA's operation takeover of Circle K’s chargers—378 plugs across 93 stations—promises to streamline things. The first EV-only charging location for Circle K opened near Gothenburg, Sweden, last year.
