The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Glasses, a code-named 'Jinju' project, are reportedly nearly identical in design to Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses. Set for a potential unveiling at Google I/O next month, the glasses will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 processor and a 12-megapixel camera, without an integrated display, priced between $379 and $499.
By contrast, Samsung is saving its micro-LED display technology for a more premium pair of smart glasses, codenamed 'Haean', launching in 2027. These are expected to be priced between $600 and $900, positioning them as competitors with Meta's newer Ray-Ban Display glasses.
Speculation is rife that Samsung’s first pair might not debut at Google I/O in May but could instead make their appearance at one of the company's Unpacked events later this year. This comes after Samsung previously announced plans to collaborate on a pair of smart glasses and launched its Galaxy XR headset last year.
The unveiling of these glasses marks an interesting move by Samsung into the wearable tech market, with Google also partnering with other brands such as Warby Parker, Gentle Monster, and Gucci for their Android XR initiative. The future could be glitzy in more ways than one.
