General Motors is set to enhance over four million of its newer vehicles with Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence assistant. The upgrade, which will be delivered via over-the-air software updates, aims to make infotainment systems in models from Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC smarter and more intuitive.
The move highlights GM's commitment to leveraging advanced technology for a better driving experience. Customers can expect Gemini to handle tasks like sending messages, offering navigation suggestions, and recommending music. The AI is designed to provide a more natural conversational experience, making it easier for drivers to interact with their vehicles without memorizing specific commands.
GM has also announced that nearly 750,000 Super Cruise-enabled vehicles have covered one billion hands-free miles, demonstrating the system's reliability and popularity. While not fully autonomous, Super Cruise allows hands-off driving on compatible roads in the US and Canada, potentially giving it an edge over competitors like Tesla.
This significant deployment of Gemini showcases GM’s ambition to lead in the integration of AI into automotive technology. The company plans to expand support for additional languages in future updates, indicating a commitment to accessibility and global adoption.
