BARCELONA—Volvo has unveiled its latest all-electric SUV, the EX60, at the start of 2024. This vehicle stands as the first model built on the company’s innovative SPA3 platform, designed to facilitate a range of electric vehicles.
The EX60 promises impressive features such as up to 400 miles (643 km) of range and rapid charging capabilities that surpass those found in any previous Volvo vehicle. The manufacturing process introduces a revolutionary technique called megacasting, which consolidates multiple lightweight components into single pieces to reduce weight and enhance efficiency.
But it's not just about the tech; Volvo has also adapted its design for Scandinavian conditions. As Sweden’s moose population is among the densest in the world, every model undergoes rigorous testing with a life-size rubber moose weighing nearly 800 pounds. This ensures that drivers are as prepared as possible for any wildlife encounters on the road.
The EX60 comes in various trim levels, priced from $59,795 for the P6 Plus to $68,745 for the powerful P10 AWD Ultra. The company is also working on a more advanced model called the P12, which will offer even greater performance and range.
For Volvo, this new vehicle symbolises a commitment to both innovation and practicality in an era where electric mobility has become increasingly crucial for environmental sustainability.
