When it comes to finding the best smart speaker, there are three major players: Amazon, Google and Apple. Each system has its unique benefits and limitations, making the choice depend on your preferred ecosystem.

Amazon's Alexa remains the default for many users due to its vast range of compatible devices and services. The Echo Dot Max stands out with impressive sound quality and a built-in smart home hub, though it comes at a higher price point than older models like the Echo Dot (5th Gen).

The Nest Audio is currently the best choice for Google users until the next generation of speakers rolls out in spring 2026. It offers good sound quality and compatibility with multiple music platforms. With a subscription, you can access Gemini Live, which allows for more natural conversations through your smart speaker.

Apple users have limited options but the HomePod Mini remains a solid investment. It doubles as a smart home hub, making it convenient if you already use Apple's Home app and Siri.

For those who want both sound and functionality on a screen, the Nest Hub Max is an excellent choice. It functions as a digital photo frame for free, with images uploaded to Google Photos under 15GB in size.
