Outside San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, enveloped in fog, I tested Apple's latest voice assistant, Siri AI. With its conversational and personalized approach, it offered surprisingly helpful recommendations for nearby pancakes.
In iOS 27, Siri has transformed from a limited experience into an integrated part of the iPhone, merging with the search bar and populating conversations with easy-to-swipe answers. Its output feels more attuned to user needs compared to older versions, often providing straightforward text responses rather than endless links.
Hyper-personalization is key; Siri AI sifts through your messages, photos, and emails, offering relevant suggestions based on your recent activity. It even integrates with Google's Gemini for a more versatile assistant that isn't locked into Apple-only services. However, this comes at the cost of indexing your phone data, which takes time to fully index.
Despite early beta rough edges, Siri AI has impressed in its ability to retrieve specific memories from my photo library. Yet, it occasionally misses the mark, like when it found images of hot tubs instead of hot pot photos. But overall, as a travel guide, it's a pleasant companion for any adventure.
