Apple Unveils Mac Mini M6 and Mac Studio M5 Ultra

New chips, same shape, but better performance—what’s not to love?

Apple has refreshed the Mac Mini and Mac Studio with new chips: the M6 in the Mac Mini and the M5 Ultra for the Mac Studio. No radical redesigns here; instead, Apple is cranking up the firepower under the hood.

The M6 in the Mac Mini boasts a 12-core CPU, including two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores, along with an additional 40% unified memory. This chip delivers 20% better multithreaded performance than the M5, promising a faster gaming experience.

The M5 Ultra in the Mac Studio is a powerhouse with 36 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores, making it Apple’s most powerful chip yet. This ultra-high-performance processor can handle everything from complex software to massive AI models locally, potentially revolutionizing how we use our desktops.

Both updates come with macOS 27 Golden Gate preinstalled, and you can preorder your new Mac starting today. They'll ship on September 22, giving tech enthusiasts a few weeks to decide if the extra $200 is worth it for the M6 Mac Mini’s improved specs.
